QUINCY – Many drivers coming into Quincy over the Neponset Bridge soon will be welcomed into Quincy by a new apartment building where the Murphy Brothers dealership sat for many years.
James Murphy, whose used-car business has outgrown the lot at 57 Quincy Shore Drive, now sits on Route 3A in Weymouth, so he will enlist developers to build 28 apartments on top of 54 parking spaces, said attorney Robert Harnais.
The the square building will have four residential floors on top of two stories of parking. The corner facing the Neponset bridge will have a larger “lighthouse-like” square room sticking out from the top.
“They want to make it a place where people can get together and look at the Boston skyline,” Harnais said on Friday.
The building will be at the corner of Quincy Shore Drive and Billings Road, with Atlantic Street along the South Side of it.
The project got the go-ahead from the city’s planning board on Wednesday. Now that that’s happened, Harnais said, they will look to bring on builders and get started on construction sometime after that.
