The redeveloper of Channel Center in South Boston’s Fort Point is looking to extend the neighborhood’s new construction footprint to an industrial section of West First Street with a new, eight-story office and research and development building.
CV Properties LLC, which is based in South Boston and Southport, Conn., is proposing construction of a 266,750-square-foot building at 105 West First St., according to a letter of intent filed with the Boston Planning & Development Agency.
The 42,219-square-foot site next to Artists for Humanity and across from the Channel Center garage and A Street Park, currently includes a nondescript brick commercial building that has been occupied by RCN Corp. and which CV Properties has an agreement to buy.
The new building would include an enclosed pedestrian connector through which the public could pass to and from the West Second Street neighborhood. “West Second Street lies about 12 feet above the First Street grade, so providing this new pedestrian route will greatly enhance residents’ accessibility to the city’s newest park — A Street Park,” CV Properties founder and president Richard Galvin said in the BPDA letter.
