NATICK – Officials are tapping a Weymouth company to oversee a project to build a new West Natick fire station.
Deputy Town Administrator Bill Chenard said selectmen on Monday awarded a contract to The Vertex Companies to be the owner’s project manager for the task of replacing the fire station.
The company was one of five firms to submit proposals to the town. Chenard said the firm has significant experience working on fire station projects.
That experience will help it advise the town on aspects of the project based upon what has worked or not worked in prior projects, he said.
A fire station is “not like a typical office building,” Chenard said. “It’s extremely unique so that perspective is extremely important.”
He said it must store vehicles filled with water, have certain exhaust systems and contain sleeping quarters, among other requirements.
