A seven-story building with social services tenants, including Roxbury’s Horizons for Homeless Children, is slated for construction on Columbus Avenue on the Roxbury/Jamaica Plain line.

A joint venture of Boston’s Watermark Development Inc. and the nonprofit Horizons filed plans with the Boston Planning & Development Agency for an approximately 139,200-square-foot building at 1785 Columbus Ave. and Dimock Street. Horizons would occupy the second and third floors for childcare and administration space, and the upper floors would be leased to social service-oriented tenants as office space.

Horizons focuses on helping young children cope with the trauma and stress associated with homelessness by providing early education, play opportunities and family support services including parenting and financial literacy classes. The project would allow it to shorten its waiting list, expanding the number of families that it serves from 175 to 225.
