Mall to break ground on redesigned ‘dining district’


Several new restaurants to debut within the next year

PEABODY — Several new restaurants are teed up to debut at the Northshore Mall within the next year as part of a major redevelopment and facelift at the mall.

An announcement from Simon Properties said the multimillion dollar project, which is described as a dramatic reinvention of its dining district, will be highlighted by two new eateries: Bancroft & Co. and Tony C’s Sports Bar & Grill.

Bancroft & Co., which is billed as a modern American steakhouse, will occupy the prime spot about to be vacated by P.F. Chang’s, which plans to close next week. Mall general manager Mark Whiting said Bancroft, however, will be building a new two-floor structure for a total of 10,000 square feet of space.

The steakhouse will have a concept and menu similar to The Bancroft in Burlington, according to the announcement, and both kitchens will be run by Chef Mario Capone.

The restaurants are run by the Webber Restaurant Group, which operates two other establishments in Groton and Hingham. Bancroft & Co. is expected to open next spring.

Tony C’s Sports Bar & Grill, likewise is a small chain of restaurants in the Boston area and plans to open its fifth location next April. It’s named to honor Red Sox outfielder Tony Conigliaro.
