MILTON – A zoning change which would allow a mixed-use development on Blue Hill Parkway was approved by town meeting Tuesday night.
The article which creates a Parkway Planned Unit Development zone passed on a voice vote, which Town Moderator Robert Hiss declared as having the needed two-thirds majority. The vote came after nearly three hours of discussion at the fifth and final session of the 2017 annual town meeting.
The development, named after its prior use as an Ice House, would consist of two buildings. The main building would be one story and up to 12,500 square feet and contain a market and a café. The other building would have commercial space on the first floor and up to a dozen one-bedroom and one-and-a-half bedroom units.
Proponents said it would bring services to a part of town which badly needs them, while opponents said it doesn’t belong in the middle of a residential area.
Planning board Member April Lamoureux said the proposal is the result of review by the board which lasted more than a year.
