Planning board to consider 84-unit apartment project in North Quincy

A six-story, 84-unit apartment building has been proposed to replace an industrial building on the banks of the Neponset River in North Quincy.

The city’s planning board on Wednesday night is expected to hear a pitch from John McCormack, head of Heat Treating LLC, to build the apartment project at 31-39 Newbury St., located behind the Adams Inn hotel and near the Neponset Bridge connecting Quincy to Dorchester.

The planning board will meet at 7 p.m. on the first floor of Old City Hall.

McCormack’s plan is to demolish the existing industrial building at that site – the home of Industrial Heat Treating – to make room for the apartment building, which would include two parking levels holding 127 spaces. Industrial Heat Treating would relocate its business to another location.
