A Chestnut Hill developer hopes to construct a residential building with 37 apartments and commercial space on Commonwealth Avenue in Brighton.
An entity led by Yan Schechter is proposing the seven-story building at 1430-1440 Commonwealth Ave., with frontage also on Kelton Street, according to plans filed for small project review with the Boston Planning & Development Agency.
The apartments would include one-, two- and three-bedroom units, with five set aside as affordable for households at 70 percent of the area median income. The project would also include two retail spaces and a rooftop community room, outdoor terraces, bike storage and an underground parking garage with 33 spaces for tenants.
Plans call for demolishing the existing three single-story, brick commercial buildings on the site. One of the tenants, Harry’s Bar & Grill, would return to the new building once construction is completed.
